Solvella

Help

Open Solvella from Extensions → Solvella in any Google Sheets spreadsheet. The menu has:

  • Goal Seek...: Goal Seek, multi-cell Goal Seek and scenarios, in the sidebar.
  • Solver...: the Solver Parameters dialog.
  • Data Analysis...: the Analysis ToolPak tools.
  • Account & upgrade: your plan and licence key.
  • Help: these pages.

The current version is 1.0.0. The version you have is shown at the bottom of the sidebar's Account tab. Google updates installed add-ons automatically.

Next to most range boxes there's a small arrow button. Select cells in the sheet first, then press the arrow, and it fills in the address for you. You can also type addresses like B4:C4, 'Sales 2026'!D10 or a named range.

Common questions

How fast is it?

For most models Solvella reads the formulas once, solves in memory and then checks the answer with one real recalculation, so small nonlinear models finish in about a second. The Answer Report says Evaluation: fast (in-memory) when this happened. If a model uses a function the fast mode doesn't cover, such as VLOOKUP, Solvella changes the cells and lets Sheets recalculate for every trial instead. That gives the same answer but takes longer, roughly 0.3 seconds per recalculation. Moving such a model to its own small sheet helps. Apps Script stops any single run after 6 minutes, so Solver stops itself at 4½ minutes and keeps the best answer found.

"Variable cells must not contain formulas"

Same rule as Excel. The cells being changed need plain numbers, because the add-on overwrites them.

Email solvella-support@googlegroups.com from the address you paid with and we'll send it again.

Does it work in Excel files opened in Sheets?

Only once the file is converted to a Google Sheet (File → Save as Google Sheets). Add-ons can't run on .xlsx files opened directly.

Can it open my Excel Solver models?

Not yet. Re-enter the objective, variables and constraints in the dialog once and press Save model; it'll be there next time.
